APPOINTMENTS

On average, more than 350 appointments each month go unused because they are not cancelled when patients can no longer attend. Cancelling your appointment allows us to offer that time to someone else who may be waiting for care.

Missed Appointments (DNA) and How to Cancel

If you're unable to attend your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. Cancelling in advance allows us to offer the appointment to another patient and helps reduce waiting times.

If your appointment was booked through the practice, you can cancel it directly through the NHS App.

Why It's Important to Cancel

Every missed appointment means another patient misses the opportunity to be seen. If you no longer need your appointment or cannot attend, please let us know as soon as possible.

Repeated missed appointments may result in a review of how future appointments are booked and managed.

Thank you for helping us make the best use of NHS appointments. If you do not attend your appointment and do not contact us beforehand, this will be recorded as a Did Not Attend (DNA). Repeated DNAs may affect how future appointments are arranged and could delay your own care.

Why We Publish Our DNA Figures

Each month, we publish the number of appointments that were recorded as Did Not Attend (DNA). We do this to raise awareness of the impact missed appointments have on both the practice and our patients. Every appointment that is not attended and not cancelled is an appointment that could have been offered to someone else who needs care.

By sharing these figures, we hope to encourage patients to cancel appointments they no longer need and help us make the best use of NHS resources.

Recent DNA Figures

  • September 2026: 428
  • August 2026: 371
  • July 2026: 450
  • June 2026: 438
  • May 2026: 491
  • April 2026: 455

The average appointment length at the practice is 15 minutes. This means that the 428 appointments missed in September alone equated to 107 hours of lost clinical time. To put that into perspective, that's the equivalent of more than 15 full GP working days.

Even if you can no longer attend at short notice, please let us know. Appointments can often be offered to another patient, helping us reduce waiting times and improve access to care for everyone.
